EMDR
(Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
About EMDR:
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy that frees people from chronic, automatic symptoms that are rooted in one or more highly disturbing events. Symptoms such as anxiety, panic, avoidance, depression, guilt, and feelings of low self-worth, can be effectively treated with EMDR.
Recommended For:
EMDR is recommended for adults, adolescents, and children who are survivors of injuries, abuse, neglect, assault, traumatic loss, and other disturbing events. There are so many diagnoses that respond well to EMDR, to name a few: Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and Bereavement.
Qualified Providers at Red Sands:
Children and adolescents can see Amy Robinson LCSW or Heidi Roulstone SCW, and adults can see Cass Waldo LCSW.
More about EMDR
How it Works
EMDR will be carried out over multiple sessions, including prep/planning and actual treatment. Therapy sessions are typically scheduled weekly for 50-minute sessions. We accept most insurances.
What to Expect
We're always excited to meet with clients for the first time so that together, we can plan how to make their lives better. During the first session, providers will answer your questions about EMDR, and after getting a general idea of how and when your unwanted symptoms started, estimate how long it might take to resolve them.
During the second session, providers will prepare you to undergo EMDR treatment by developing and teaching personalized methods for managing emotions during sessions and during the week between sessions. Then, on the third session, we can usually start EMDR! You can expect a collaborative, respectful approach - YOU are the expert on you, so you will be in control of how fast or slow we go (including how much or how little you want to share about what happened to you). EMDR works whether the therapist knows all of the details or not!
